[00:00:00] It's funny. Business owners will spend hours researching funnels, obsessing over SEO, or signing up for the latest expert formula. But they completely overlook the simplest and most powerful growth lever they already have. [00:00:15] The fastest path to growth isn't a tactic. It's a truth you already know but aren't using. Welcome to the High Impact Leader Podcast, a leadership podcast for business owners and leaders who want self managing teams, stronger accountability and scalable performance without carrying everything themselves. If you're ready to focus on leadership design, not just effort, you're in the right place. G'. Day. I'm Brendan Rogers. Now let's talk about the simplest growth strategy that most leaders ignore and how you can start using it today. [00:00:48] Today, I want to share a story with you. It's a reminder that sometimes the answer to your growth problem isn't complicated. [00:00:55] Sometimes it's something you already have. [00:00:58] Let me share a story. [00:00:59] Several months ago, a business owner I've known for years reached out and asked if we could catch up. He was at a crossroads in his business. [00:01:07] Now, he trusted me and he liked my direct, no nonsense approach to leadership and business. [00:01:13] And he knew I wasn't going to drown him in complicated formulas or solutions. So he grabbed a coffee and he shared where he wanted to take his business, the revenue that he wanted to reach, and the stability he wanted end the lifestyle he was chasing for his family. But he was stuck. He'd been bombarded with every piece of expert advice under the sun. Funnels, SEO strategies, podcasting content, calendars, paid ads, you name it, he tried it. Here's the problem though. Everyone giving him advice had blinkers on. They were only offering the solution that they could sell. No one was looking at him. [00:01:52] No one was looking at his strengths, his natural style, or what he already had around him that could unlock fast and aligned growth. [00:02:00] And that's what a real leadership and business coach does. And that's where this story turns. [00:02:06] Now this guy, he's one of the most naturally likeable people you'll ever meet. He's great with people, great at conversation, a real genuine fellow, well known and extremely well liked in the community. [00:02:19] And he had a strong network, but he wasn't using it. [00:02:23] So I told him something incredibly simple. The fastest way to grow your business is to leverage the relationships you already have. [00:02:33] Not funnels, not fancy marketing, not complexity, just people. [00:02:39] Just connection. And just being his authentic self. [00:02:43] It aligned perfectly with his strengths, his natural leadership style, his energy and his abilities. [00:02:51] And you should have seen the relief on his face. Something he knew he could do very well. No setup. Needed nothing to learn, and he could start straight away. [00:03:01] Now, here's the part that most people miss. The advice itself wasn't what changed his business. [00:03:07] It was what he did next. [00:03:10] So what did he actually do? He went home that night and made a list. Not of prospects, not of cold leads, but of people he already knew. People who'd seen his work, people who already trusted him. Old clients, past colleagues, friends in business, and people from his community. [00:03:29] Then he started having conversations. [00:03:32] He reconnected with a past client he'd done great work for. He reached out to a former colleague who now ran their own business. [00:03:40] He caught up with a mate from his networking group who always seemed to know someone who needed help. [00:03:45] One conversation led to a referral. That referral led to a conversation with someone who needed exactly what he offered. And that conversation led to new work. [00:03:56] Then another past client referred him to a business partner. Then a mate from his gym mentioned him to a colleague who was looking for help. Momentum started building. [00:04:07] Not from a funnel, not from ads, but from conversations. [00:04:12] And here's what surprised him most. He actually enjoyed it. He wasn't grinding through cold outreach. He was catching up with people, being helpful, being himself. The old him, the person he'd been before. All the advice convinced him he needed complicated tactics. [00:04:29] Within a few months, he'd grown his client base. His pipeline was full, his income had stabilized, and he booked a family holiday to Fiji, something he hadn't been able to do in years. [00:04:41] All because he finally leaned into the simplest lever. [00:04:45] He used his relationships. [00:04:49] Now, I can already hear some of you thinking, that won't work for me. Or maybe I don't have a strong network. [00:04:55] Let me tell you this directly. Relationship based growth isn't about having hundreds of contacts. It's not about being the most popular person in the room. It's not about having a massive LinkedIn following. [00:05:07] It starts with a small number of trusted relationships. Maybe five people, maybe 10. People who've already seen your work. People who already know what you're capable of. People who already trust you. [00:05:22] You don't need a bigger network. You need to become more intentional with the one that you already have. [00:05:28] It starts with having conversations, and real conversations. Not selling, just connecting. Just being genuinely helpful. And here's the thing most people forget. Relationships need maintenance. They need attention. The people in your network right now, the ones you've simply stopped talking to, they're still there. They're still potential clients. They're still potential referral sources. [00:05:54] You just stopped reaching Out. [00:05:57] That's not a network problem. That's a conversation problem. And that's something that you can fix today. [00:06:03] Now, this story actually aligns with my high impact leader methodology. One of the pillars in my people operating system is all about understanding yourself and using what you already have. And specifically, there's three parts to it. Perceive is about self awareness and emotional intelligence. This guy recognized that his strength wasn't building funnels and it was building relationships. He understood who he really was. His natural relational style, his presence and his energy. [00:06:32] Evaluate. Well, evaluate is about strategic insight. He looked at his network strategically and asked, who do I know who knows someone I can help? And then he acted on it. [00:06:44] Another piece is leverage. And leverage is about using what you already have. [00:06:49] He didn't need new resources. He already had a network of people who knew and trusted him. He just needed to use it. [00:06:58] And when we look at the impact triangle, which represents three parts of every business, this story moves two of them. There's you, the leader. He went from reactive and scattered to intentional and clear. There's the business, he moved it from volatile to stable and predictable. And there's the team side. Well, he already had a supportive crew of people ready to deliver the work. They were there all along. [00:07:24] This is why the story matters. This is leadership. This is business clarity. And this is impact. [00:07:33] If you're listening to this episode as a business owner or business leader, ask yourself these questions. [00:07:39] Who already trust me, who already knows the quality of my work? [00:07:46] Who have I simply stopped talking to? [00:07:50] Which existing relationships have I neglected? [00:07:53] And what's the simplest growth lever I'm ignoring right now? [00:07:59] Believe me, complexity kills momentum. Connection is what builds it. [00:08:05] Your next client, your next opportunity, your next breakthrough, it might already be in your phone. [00:08:12] And the high impact leader club is where we go deeper. It's the place for leaders who want to design their leadership intentionally inside the club. I work with business owners and leaders to redesign their leadership approach so they can reduce their leadership load, improve decision making, and build self managing teams with real accountability. [00:08:56] Growth doesn't always come from finding something new. [00:09:00] More often it comes from intentionally using what you've already built. [00:09:05] So that's it for today. Thanks for listening to the HeImpact Leader podcast. I'm Brendan Rogers, and until next time, design your leadership, build your team, lead with impact.
